Burke County is one of 100 counties in North Carolina.  It is thought to be a rare jewel among an array of gems in the Carolina mountains.  Burke county is home to the panoramic Table Rock area that houses Table Rock Middle School.  Within Burke county the municipalities are: Connelly Springs, Drexel, Glen Alpine, Hildebran, City of Morganton (the county seat), Rutherford College, and Valdese.  Burke county has been referred to as the "Western State Capital."  For those who call it home, it is simply majestic.

Morganton's Table Rock Middle School serves grades 6-8.  It is among the few public middle schools in North Carolina to receive a Distinguished Great Schools rating of 8 out of 10. The school is busy educating and caring for 690 students for the 2009-2010 year.  The teacher/student ratio on the average is 1 to 19.  There are more male than female students with 52% male and 48% female.  All-in-all Table Rock Middle School is a very impressive model of a true middle school environment.  Designating hallways for specific grades, incorporating cross-curricular and co-curricular teaming, and offering students a variety of exploratory and discovery classes are all ways in which Table Rock exemplifies the middle school concept.
